Drawing Lines in the Sand

No hidden meaning in the title...that's just literally what I was doing when I took this pic.. Well, it wasn't actually sand, it was dirt...but whatevs...

  1. There's something about the light of this one that I really like... you aren't shooting RAW, are you? It has something to do with the Pepsi sign... can't quite say what it is.

Another thing... you're looking sweaty in this one, and one of my all-time faves of your work was a really sweaty shot in a shed of some sort. While it's still summer, try to do some more of those!

    1. @Steve - Nope, not shooting RAW...my little ole Sony Cybershot doesn't give me the capability to do so, sadly...

Dude! It was like 103 degrees the day I did this shoot (like 109 heat index, according to the weatherman) So, I was DEFinitely SWEATY!!! If you like this pic., you should click on its counterpart on the righthand sidebar. I posted it on tumblr, and I'm WAY sweatier in that one! I am gonna try to do better about taking advantage of shooting while the weather is so steamy...

Glad to see you on here - I've MISSed You!

    1. @Ted - Haha, YEAH! Guess you'd call that an optical illusion - cuz "calm and thoughtful" were pretty much the furthest things from what I actually was! Despite how simple my shoots may sometimes appear to be, more times than not - I'm in a total panic to get through each frame...

  4. REALLY liking the B-side! But you've got another recent B-side that's so far superior to the bigugly pic that I'm about to comment on it as well. It makes me blue... ;-)

As for not commenting as much, I'm not sure why not... I check 5 times for every post you put up. Early on, I sensed that you were an artist struggling to emerge, and I love that... and want to assist that. Recently, you've seemed to move into more of your maturity, somehow. And in doing so, you don't seem so artistically needy as you were in the early days. And so I simply enjoy each new post, without commenting so much. But I appreciate the new ones every bit as much as the early ones!

  5. @Steve - Ya' know, I hadn't really thought about it before you left the above comment - but it does kinda feel like my self-portrait training wheels may have actually come off! That's a pretty awesome thought! Something that I've always found to be somewhat curious (over the course of the entire almost three years that I've been posting on this blog) - is that compared to a lot of other blogs that I look at, The Big Ugly has historically gotten far fewer comments in general...and because of that, I've grown somewhat accustomed to publishing entries to a fairly quiet audience - so please don't feel like I'm trying to pressure you into commenting more often, or anything like that...I really was just letting you know how glad I was that you stopped by!

  6. This shot really caught my attention. I love it. Keep up the great work! Is this a one-of or do you have more photos from this shoot to share?

    1. @J Quinton - I took 63 separate frames during the Pepsi sign shoot - but out of all of 'em, there are only about a half a dozen that I would share (I guess it kinda goes without saying that I tend to be a tad hypercritical of myself, and my selfpics - haha!) Anyway, I'm really glad to hear that you like this pic. - Thank You so much for telling me :D
