About Face - Bamboo-zled

(Snapped on 6/27/11)

Ugh...Ok, soooo...I'm not gonna say a word about how baggy my eyes are (no matter how much sleep I get), and how deeply and permanently carved into my face my laugh lines have apparently become...I'm just gonna shut up and post the picture...sound good?

  2. @Anonymous - Woooaaahhh...that BAD, huh? In all honesty though, I can't say that I disagree with your friends. I've never been a big fan of my face, either. (Suddenly the name "The Big Ugly" seems that much more appropriate, haha!)

Anyway, thanks for giving me the straight skinny...I always appreciate honesty!

  3. IMHO I believe that your face shows character, determination and I also think you are a lot cutter than Mowgli...Can you growl like Shere Khan?? Grrrrrr...lol

  4. @(the other)Anonymous - Hmmmmm...not sure I've ever TRIED to growl. If I ever have a reason to though, I'll def give it a whirl and then let you know how I stack up to Shere Khan :)

  5. are you sure you want to capitulate to the "Butterface" thing?, you remind me of Thelma Todd, golden age actress, not a raving beauty a la pickford, but steady and solid

  6. @The Old Kr0w - Aw, ya' know? I try not to let stuff like that bother me (sticks and stones and all that) and frankly, I prefer it when folks tell me directly - what they think about me and my work...rather than talk smack about me behind my back - which around here, is almost ALways the case.

Basically, I'm just an average (looking) person - doing this whacked-out thing that I love to do. And I've got no other choice but to do the best with what I got...whether the rest of the world likes all (or any?) of me or not.

Thank you so much for chimin' in :)

  7. sorry I can't believe anyone could be so rude and shallow - you are obviously an insanely attractive woman with grace and poise - your face is beautiful - strong powerful eyes - and your body is out if this world. I hope you continue to accept and cherish your body as it changes, as we all must do.

  8. @Anonymous - You're so sweet to say all of those things...THANK You! But honestly, I really am good with who I am...I think that's why I can shrug off derisive comments like that (especially since I also believe that my face is the weakest of my physical attributes)

I appreciate you coming here to my blog, but more than that even - thanks for standing up for me.

  9. TBU: Your face has beautiful character and as for the etching of laugh lines - more power to you! At least they are laugh lines!

Your work is an inspiration! Having spent a small amount of time doing self portraiture I am in awe of the results you obtain. I know it can take many, many takes to get a single good shot and then in the end it gets wiped for another perspective. As long as you enjoy doing it it shows. Thanks for sharing!

  10. I agree with the above poster. Character is more interesting then a fresh off the boat face. I believe there is room for woman not in their 30s and 20s to show the world what they have and how they earned it.
But keeping in the spirit of honesty, and as a fellow female considering it,nearing 40 myself ,do you have botox anywhere ? This is a common cosmetic thing to do these days and I kind of hope you are brave enough not too. I'd like to see women age naturally.

  11. @SapioSlut - True enough! I guess it's a good thing that my laugh lines are more pronounced than the wrinkles that I've gotten from furrowing my brow, eh?

And again, you are absolutely correct...I'm not sure folks who don't dabble in timed self-portraiture, have any idea how truly challenging, physically demanding, frustrating, but best of all - rewarding - it typically is...I feel happy every day, to have found something that I love to do this much.

Thank you ever so much for visiting my blog, and for leaving such an uplifting message!

  12. @Anonymous - No, I've never used botox...and honestly? I'm sort of afraid of it (call me a wuss) For one thing - I really don't like needles, and the thought of having them stuck into my face (while fully conscious) - is definitely not at ALL appealing. But also I've heard tons of negative spin about how your face becomes expressionless, after the procedure...and frankly? That frightens me even more than the needles! (I have had a boob job, though...but that's probably stating the obvious, haha!)

Thanks for stopping by my blog, and for taking the time to chat with me about things :)

  13. Hey "butterface" its rob, the bouncer from UJ's last night. I just wanted to let you know you are gorgeous. Don't ever let anyone tell you different. Do what you do best.

  14. Oh MAN, Rob! You made my NIGHT, last night...and your wonderfully sweet comment - literally just made my morning!

Thank you SO much for helpin' me get my silly picture (btw - YOU did a MUCH better job posing than I did!) and thanks ALso - for stoppin' by my blog, AND for liftin' this old gal's spirits!

(I hope you'll check back...I should have the new pics. up, sometime today...)

    Thanks again - for EVerything!

  15. what an incredibly rude comment left by the first anonymous. Don't you have anything better to do with your time and energy? Get a fucking life. I'd like to see YOU be so brave enough to put yourself out there and open to criticism. Besides the content of your comment, your diction, spelling and "grammar" also indicate that you are too dumb to be taken seriously on any level. So while you're getting a life, try getting a basic high school education, too.

  16. You should be ashamed and mortified of your post. You and you alone have probably set women back a hundred years. I was given this site from a coworker and since seeing it I feel dirty. I pray my two daughters, will learn from your disgraceful time here. Its not bad enough that the internet spews filth, to anyone who is big enough to push a button you have to demean and sinfully degrade a fine art as photography. You are as tawdry as Larry Flung but you are woman and you disgrace your sex

    ReplyDelete
  17. @Anonymous - Kind of amusing to me, that you left this comment on a post that shows only my face...Eh, whatever...iz coo'...

    Praise be to Larry Flung!

  18. Wow, I have not been here for a week or so and all hell has broken loose, what have you done Lauralyn, you should be ashamned of yourself showing of your deliciously wonderful femanine beauty for all to see!!!

And yes, before you start protesting you are beautiful maybe not in the cutie sense of the word but then who wants cute, thats what Hannah Montana is for, you have a grace an beauty that only a WOMAN has.

  19. Ohhh and I forgot to say as Sapioslut said...to someone who also takes a lot of self portraits your work is a constant inspiration to me.

I think you are right too, that unless it is something you do, you really have no idea how much time and hard work it takes and just how many shots you have to take in order to maybe get one or two good ones but like you, I love doing it. I can only hope to be half as good as you are at it one day

  20. @anon: "you have to demean and sinfully degrade a fine art as photography": maybe do some research and learn that since the beginning, both photography and "fine art" (such as classical painting) have depicted female nudity. There's always been a fine line between pornography and art. Have you ever seen an Ingres painting? or a Greek statue? it's actually moronic prudes like you that set back not just womankind, but all of human civilization.

  21. I am appalled at some of the negative comments directed at Lauralyn regarding this picture, especially from cowards hiding behind an "anonymous" mask. It is a great portrait of an excellent actress/photographer, doing amazing work. How many of us can say that we have been exhibited in leading galleries, let alone have the guts to show ourselves in so many and varied situations.
Keep up the good work, Lauralyn, and ignore the minority who can only criticize.
I'm so glad that you were able to use these comments to produce another set of wonderful pictures.
