(All pics. snapped on 10/10/11)
Right so...as threatened in my last post - I did in fact answer the calling of that fabulous, fog-filtered moonlight, the other night - and got myself out in it for the sake of my sanity (first and foremost) but also in order to start building up my sorely depleted reserve of self-snaps. And even though the pictures that I brought home didn't turn out nearly as well as I'd hoped that they would - the excursion overall, worked wonders on my shriveling state of well-being...ahhhhh...
Unfortunately though, I'm at a loss for ample enough time with which to break down this shoot in more detail...other than to mention that I did havta trespass in order to get to this place - but I never felt so much as a hint of anxiety over getting busted for poaching, or attacked by wild animals...so that was a bit of a buzz-kill. The teensy shred of angst that I weathered, stemmed from not being able to effectively harness that moist, dense, ornery wall of light - which I'd mistakenly believed would be a shoo-in for returning an exceptional set of new pics.. Sadly though, it was not meant to be - as my shitty, little camera simply couldn't seem to cope with the conditions.
So here I am again...penning yet another abbreviated, lackluster post. And although doing so leaves me with a nagging feeling of guilt, it's honestly all that I can swing at the moment - since so many other demands on my time have left me hamstrung to compose the prose that should've accompanied these pics..
Actually, that grainy look can be very cool sometimes. The first shot is gorgeous. In fact, photo programs come with some cool tools for making stuff grainy. Have you tried the Gimp? It doesn't work very well for printing, because it doesn't do CYMK natively, but it's just fine for something that will be seen on a monitor. (The GIMP is free, BTW.)
ReplyDeletesomething about the darkness makes these pics awesome. Using the fridge as a light source was brillant. I love coming here
ReplyDelete@Alex R. - I've heard about The GIMP, and it's funny because every time someone mentions it - it always reminds me of the movie Pulp Fiction, haha! Seriously though, I have to admit (once again) to an inherent stubbornness about certain things. In this case, I'm talking about my hesitancy to tweak my pics. any more than absolutely necessary. I only use iPhoto and barely, at that. It all goes back to keeping my pictures as pure(?) as possible by trying to manipulate them primarily when they're actually snapped, and not so much during the editing process...does that make sense?
ReplyDelete@Question - Oh, THANK You! I love that you love to come here!
ReplyDeleteSo, about the pics....I think that outside of my disappointment with their quality - my main problem with this group, is the "been there, done that" feeling that I get - each and every time that I look at them. Mainly because - all of the poses have been way overused, I've probably taken more than enough moon pics. by now, and this is actually the third time that I've snapped pics. of myself bathed in the light of a refrigerator.
Maybe I'm being overly nit-picky, I dunno. But I havta say, I am glad to hear that you like them!
Can't believe you're saying that!! Just as I'm thinking... "she's done a new genre with that awesome cooler pic!" I'll grant you the first and third shots, while nice, are things you've done before... but the middle one is new ground, IMO, and exceptionally well done! Wouldn't change a thing.
ReplyDeleteReally like the first photo! Tough shooting conditions though.

@Steve Mouzon - Isn't it crazy how differently we all react to certain things...The cooler pic. to me - is the most redundant of the entire lot. Makes me wonder if I ever really know what I'm talkin about, haha! At any rate, I am super tickled to hear that you like the pic., Steve :)
ReplyDelete@Jim B. - Aw, you're so nice - THANK You! But I bet if you'd seen the moon pic. beFORE I edited the hell out of it - your opinion if it would be slightly less than favorable. It almost feels like I'm cheating or something, anytime I have to tinker with a photo this much.
ReplyDeleteThe moon picture is simply awesome and I notice someone mentioned GIMP... a tool I love. I understand your desire to keep as true to the shot as possible but I think you might enjoy it never-the-less and you might like some of the cool finishing effects you play around with. Just gives things that extra dimension sometimes.

@Molly - Yeah, you have definitely done some pretty bitchin' stuff to many of the pics that I've seen on your blog! I had no idea you were using the gimp to achieve such interesting effects...might havta fiddle around with it AFter all - Thanks Molly!
